The Treaty Of Waitangi Mya and Sapphire

 On February the 6th 1840 there was a contract between the Maori and the British people. William Hobson brought the contract from Britain on behalf of Queen Victoria. About fifty of the Maori chiefs signed the contract.

Before the treaty was signed the Maori chiefs were arguing about what will happen in the future, and what the treaty would bring. They were hoping that there would be peace.

The 3 ps are the main principles of the treaty. They are protection, partnership and participation they are really important and they mean special things. Unfortunately the Maori and British versions meant different things.

The pt England way is our school motto it means that it is our Kawa with care,So that we all can be safer, happier and glad to learn.

 Before the pt England way was made it was called belonging to Pt England, Ms Meleisa who use to work at this school back in 2000-2001 she helped write the pt England way.

 The 3ps are participation,protection and partnership they are the principals for our Motto

The purpose is to do the right thing by not going out of school grounds listening to the teacher, Wear it with pride,Take charge and Tiaki Taonga

Intro: This week we are comparing our lives with a girl named Omar. She is a primary student who lives in Malawi. We recently watched her video about her life., and her school life at Mwaya.

I think we have differnt school lives, because she wakes up at 6:00 to walk to school. We wake up at 7:00 am and some people go to school at 8:00 or 8:30.

She walks 6 kilometers to school on the rocky dusty ground with no shoes., we drive to school.

At her school students are 12-16 years old  , everyone has an exam at the end of the year. If they fail they stay at the school until they pass it , If they pass it they move to secondary school. They have 2 breaks at 8:40 and 10:40 each for 10 minutes.

Some girls stay home to learn how to cook and farm from their mothers, that means they don't have time to study for exams. Its not just the girls its most of the children. They fail because they help their families

Omars life at home is really frustrating because her mother and father died when she was young.She and her brother and sisters has to sleep on the floor while the grampa sleeps on the only bed because hes sick.Omar has to do chores she walks to the well and collects water for her family that is used for bathing,cooking and cleaning

My Highlights For 2013

My highlights for this year is....

This year has been awesome because I thought my class that I was going to be in would be boring as I planned it but it wasn’t. It was fantastic I made new friend’s the first day I started their name’s were Helen,Sarona and Mya And I have much much more  my teachers were awesome too my friends always have my back.

And how the year 8s went to camp because we went into room 19 it was fun with Ms Tito we baked and played and did much much more only year 7s it was the best until they came back.

I like maths but i’m not very good at it right now i'm in pyramids for my but i'm trying to be in the smartest group Icosahedrons I keep on going to this presentation called tracking my success and it helps me succeed in maths

The Most Exciting Place That I Didn't Go To

Intro:The day when the year 7’s went to an exciting heart pounding place well I stayed at school was boring.

Today was the day when the year 7s went to Action world well I stayed at school. Me and Ascena had to ask Ms Squires which class we were in, she looked very confused she didn't answer our question until the year 7s left on the bus. It was time for Assembly boring as usual.It was so akward me, Ascena and Elizabeth were the only year 7s and year 8s.

Suddenly out of nowhere out popped Ms Squires which class do you want to be in she asked “which class do you want to be in room 7 ok” Ascena and me buddied up well Elizabeth picked room 8 when the assembly was finished we both went to Ms Glazes class First we had to do breathing exercises then we had to make A movie because Ms Blake is leaving but we had to keep it a secret.

Time to film It was challenging because the little kids from room 2 were playing around
after all that drama we were finally done then we had to put this Astounding movie together It was time for lunch the year 7s were coming back then we had to go back to our intermediate classes We played and danced by the time we finished I was as exhausted as a sleeping sloth because you know sloths sleep a lot. I thought today would be awful but it just turned out okay.

Swimming Reflection

Intro:For the last two weeks team 5 has been learning how to swim so today I'm  writing a reflection about my swimming.

I learnt how to swim on the side properly and swim without touching the bottom

I think i've improved in swimming on the side and my stroke technique

In the future I need to work on:My back strokes because I am terrible at doing this and need to do better with my feet because I keep on touching the bottom of the ground.

T.M.S Show Not Tell

She stared at the blue envelope, resting in her hand “Another letter, number 22”, she said in a nice voice. As she stumbled on the cracked concrete, she looked up at the house and noticed paint fading, broken tiles, cracked windows, cobwebs everywhere and a whole lot of dead flowers in the garden. I knocked on the door and gulped.

After a while it was slowly opened by an old man with a walking stick, and a long white beard. I reached out and handed the note to him without saying a word. He stared at the letter and looked surprised. “Follow me”, he said in a calm voice. As we walked down the hallway it was dark. and spooky.

My First day of primary

 

Today was the day my heart pounded as loud as the booming bass in a rock band!!! It was such a cold and freezing day that I had goosebumps. I was getting ready when suddenly I  heard my mother knocking on my door. ‘’Hurry up Sapphire we are all waiting,” she shouted.

As I hopped into the car “Click,” went my seat belt.  When I got to school the 8:30 bell had just rung. As we went to the office,I noticed that the office lady was wearing a dress with white kittens on it. ‘’Hello. Welcome to Dominion Road School how may I help you.’’ she said with a gentle voice.

“What class is Sapphire McKay in please?” my Mum asked.

‘’Room 5,’’ she replied

“Thank you,” my Mum said. “Have a nice day.” We went off to look for my class.

Finally we found my class. My legs were so sore it felt like I had just climbed Mt Everest.Frightened and scared as I tugged at my mum’s dress I thought to myself, “ I wonder what my class is going to be like?” My mum left  and I felt abandoned so I hid behind the wall. I could hear my teacher yelling at children just as I was going to walk in. I felt even more frightened. I was just about to run after Mum when  I heard a lady asking for me. ‘’Sorry wrong classroom Sapphire, it was my fault,” she said. “You are in room 6’’.

She walked me to my proper class. As I walked in my classroom it peaceful and quiet I felt like I was in heaven that was the

’’bestest day of my life’’

I said as I was walking home I cant wait until I go back to school.

Going To The Beach Writing Sample

Today we had to write a sample in 40 minutes

Going to the beach

Feeling excited, my heart was beating so loud I thought I would EXPLODE thankfully I didn't. Today me and my family were going to the beach, we were going there to swim and find some seafood such as Kinna, Mussels, crab, Fish and other sea food.

We hopped into the car and headed straight for the beach. Finally we were there, I could hear the sound of the ocean. Before we had a swim we went on the rocks, I was standing on a very sharp rock and as I went to climb onto the other rock, I slipped and cut my skin then blood started to rush out of my long terrible cut

I found a huge crab climbing up my leg I flicked the crab off and never mentioned It to my family, finally It was time to go home and we all had some fish n chips.

Will.i.am comes to Pt England

Have you ever heard a group called black eye peas i sat down wondering  this is a mystery i glanced around looking for the special guest to arrive suddenly i glanced around again building excitement everyone started to gasp my heart was pumping as loud as a lion.

The moment has come that everybody has been waiting for here comes will.i.am all I heard is girls screaming I was surrounded by cameras I was stoked to see that the real will.i.am is here our mystery guest has  finally revealled himself to Pt England school  

Then the kapahaka group did there cultural dance that’s a good way to represent nz I was so happy after that the senior hip hop dance and I was so excited I couldnt speak 8 other schools came too.

He stood there proudly and spoke in a weird but interesting voice it was like we were waiting for a special moment to come then a well dressed person came in with a huge check was that our check I sat there wondering then william spoke and said in a polite way I and the manai kalani want to give you a big check everyone clapped and cheered they were clapping so hard for a minute i thought i was going deaf  when the special assembly finished I thought it was the bestest day of my life.
